Friends of Brooksvale Park, Inc. is excited to announce they will be volunteering at the annual Maple Sugaring Open House this Saturday, March 20 from 10am-2pm at the park. Presented each year by Hamden’s Recreation Department, this open house is just one of many to be held around the state during Connecticut’s Maple Weekend.
Volunteers will assist park staff at various learning stations throughout the park. Learn the history and science behind this ancient craft as well as Native American legends about its discovery. Exhibits, artifacts and a visit to the sugar bush and sugar shack will provide an opportunity to understand the process from sap to syrup.
The event is free and open to the public. Please keep in mind the it is outdoors where the ground can be slippery and muddy, so dress for the weather. All guidelines as mandated by the State of CT regarding social distancing and mask wearing must be adhered to while in the park.
A limited supply of ½ pint bottles of 100% Brooksvale Maple Syrup will be available during the open house while supplies last. Donation is $8/ half pint, one per family. 100% of donations support this program and others at the park
Heavy rain or snow will cancel the program. Please call the park office (203) 287-2669 if weather is questionable.
